Viewing Hints in Coding Problems

For coding problems where you write and submit code, you can check hints generated by AI that analyze your in-progress code on the Hints tab of the problem screen. There are two types of hints:

Hint	Content	When available
Error location	The lines that need correction and the approximate ratio of correct lines	About 3 minutes after opening the problem (default setting)
Additional hints	Reasons for errors, correction methods, corrected code, etc., shown one step at a time	About 5 minutes after opening the problem (default setting)

The time until hints become available and which hints you can use vary depending on the course material settings.

Viewing Error Locations

1. Write code on the problem screen.
2. After the available time has passed, about 10 seconds after you edit your code, AI estimates the error locations and displays them on the Hints tab.
3. Displayed content is labeled Verified or Unverified. Unverified hints are still being checked for accuracy and may be incorrect.

Press Regenerate to re-estimate based on your current code. If a new estimation result is generated while you are viewing additional hints, the message "A new error location estimation result has been generated." appears; press Show to switch to it.

Viewing Additional Hints

1. Press Request hint on the Hints tab (or Request additional hint while viewing error locations).
2. Generation takes from several dozen seconds to a few minutes. Once generated, the first stage is displayed.
3. If you want more detail, press Request additional hint to display the next stage. When all stages are displayed, the message "No more hints." appears.
4. To start over, press Reset.

If the available time has passed, additional hints are also generated automatically when you submit an incorrect answer.

If you check Also show hints before verification and press Regenerate for error locations, unverified error locations are shown first, labeled Unverified. They appear sooner, but incorrect hints may be displayed. If verification finds an error, the message "As a result of verifying the hint, an error was found, so it has been withdrawn." appears and the original hint is restored.

When Hints Are Not Displayed

The Hints tab is not shown in the following cases:

• For course materials in exam mode, during the exam period
• For problems graded manually
• When hints are disabled in the course material settings

If an error appears on the Hints tab, follow the displayed instructions. The main ones are:

Message	Action
AI could not generate a hint.	Fix syntax errors, continue writing code, or review the problem statement, then retry
Because the file (…) specified in the problem has not been submitted…	Check that the file name matches the one specified in the problem
Because the AI usage limit has been reached, a hint cannot be generated.	Wait a while and retry
Because you are using a programming language that AI does not support…	Switch to another programming language allowed in the problem

Notes

• Hints are generated by AI and may contain errors.
• Instructors can check each learner's hint usage count on the learning analytics screen, and the last hint viewed on the submission details.
