Asking Questions with AI Chat
AI Chat lets you ask questions about subjects and course materials. To answer your question, the AI searches for and reads other materials in the same subject on its own. For general questions that are not specific to a subject, such as the syntax of a programming language or the meaning of an error message, the AI answers from its own knowledge without reading any materials.
Screens where you can open it
- Subject screen (list of lessons and materials)
- Material screen (including the editing and review screens)
- Problem screen
Press the AI Chat button at the bottom right of the screen. On wide screens, AI Chat opens on the right side. On narrow screens such as smartphones, it opens across the whole screen. To close it, press the close button at the top right of AI Chat.
If you move to a screen where AI Chat is not available while it is open, it is hidden automatically. It appears again when you return to a screen where it is available.
Chat history is separated by screen. A chat started on the problem screen does not appear in the history on the material screen. Press the history icon at the top right to open the chat history for that screen. History is sorted by the date and time of the last question, newest first.
How to use it
- Press the new chat icon at the top right.
- Type your question and press
Send (or Ctrl + Enter).
- The answer is displayed. If the AI referred to other materials, a notice such as "Read material 'XX'" appears above the answer, and the names of the materials used are shown at the end of the answer.
- If the AI answered without reading any materials, a
Check materials and answer again button appears below the answer. Press it when you want an explanation that follows the subject's materials. The AI then reads the materials and answers the same question again, replacing the previous answer.
To open a previous chat, press the history icon and select it from the list. Pressing the back button on the history screen returns you to the chat you had open.
Example questions:
- Material screen: "Summarize the content of this material," "How does this differ from the for loop explained in the Lesson 2 material?"
- Subject screen: "What does the Lesson 3 material cover?" "Which materials explain functions?"
- Problem screen: "What is the input format for this problem?" "Which part of the material is relevant to this problem?"
What the AI can refer to
- The body of the open material, and on the problem screen, the problem statement
- Materials in the same subject (published ones only)
The AI does not refer to the following:
- Materials from other subjects
- Unpublished materials, materials where AI Chat is disabled, or the contents of exam materials (you can check the material name and the reason it cannot be referenced)
- Submitted code or execution results (for advice on code, use the hint feature)
Notes
- Answers may contain errors. When material names are shown as references, please check those materials.
- Answers based on general knowledge are labeled as such. They may differ from the writing conventions or rules set by the subject, so if you are unsure, press the
Check materials and answer again button.
- If a subject has no materials that support AI Chat, the button does not appear on the subject screen.
- In the following materials, the
AI Chat button is not shown on the material screen or its problem screen, and students cannot ask questions:
- Materials in Exam mode (regardless of whether the submission period is before, during, or after)
- Materials before their submission release date and time (the button appears once the start time arrives)
- Materials where AI Chat is disabled
- People with instructor permissions for a subject can use AI Chat on the materials above and refer to the content of the subject's materials. Instructor mode display alone does not change permissions.
- Instructors can review chat contents and the materials referenced through
AI Chat History in the organization settings.
