Running a Real-Time Survey

For materials that support real-time surveys, you can check connected participants, start and end questions, and switch the display of results.

Who Can Operate

• Organization administrators
• Group administrators
• Members of the material repository

Prerequisites

• Real-time survey is enabled for the target material
• The material contains questions (all questions in the material can be run as surveys)

What You Can Do

• Check connected participants
• Start accepting responses for each question
• Stop accepting responses
• Show results to learners
• Reset the state and start over

Steps on Screen

1. On the course page, press Manage survey for the target material.
2. Under Currently connected learners, check the participant count and participant list. Only learners who have the material screen open are displayed.
3. For the target question, press Start survey to begin accepting responses.
4. Press End survey at the appropriate time.
5. If you want learners to see the results as well, press Publish results. You can return to hidden status with Stop publishing results.
6. To run the survey again, use Return to before start. No confirmation screen is shown. The response records and progress for that question are deleted, and the question returns to the state before responses were accepted. Do not press this if you want to keep the results.

Notes

• Switch result publishing after response acceptance has started.
• When results are hidden, learners cannot see the aggregated results.
• Pressing Start survey ends any other question currently running in the same material.
• An ended question cannot be restarted until you press Return to before start.
• Learners see the response screen only while they have the material screen open.
• If you check Treat as real-time survey on a question, every answer to that question is recorded as correct.
• Review is not available for materials that are real-time surveys.
